Visitation

Please do not visit if you have been ill, exposed to an infectious disease, have traveled or attended large gatherings in the last week. Consider phone calls or Zoom visits when appropriate.

Visitors are often an important part of our residents’ lives. We became painfully aware of this during COVID, which changed everything. As we slowly recover from that dreadful time, we continue to feel the need to be cautious about exposing residents to infectious diseases. We are reluctant to impose visiting hours but reserve the right to do so.

  • Doors are kept locked at the Homesteads for obvious safety measures. We ask that visitors avoid times when it is difficult for caregivers to free themselves up to answer the door.  These include early mornings (any time before 9:30), late evenings and mealtimes. Lunch is served from 11:30 until 1:00; supper from 4:30 until 6:00pm.

  • We request all visitors call before they visit to ask permission from the resident to visit or check with staff to see if it is a good time. The Homesteads are not open to the public, but are the private residences of our residents. It is important to respect their privacy and right to control who visits and when.

  • There will be exceptions to these guidelines for appointments or other special visits. It is helpful to note on residents’           calendars when you plan to visit and when you have visited, so staff can help to remind them about upcoming events or recent visits. Staff can also help to prepare residents for visits if they can anticipate them.
